I am the guy that knows what kind of car you have hidden behind your shed and under the boxes in your garage.... I know what year it is, how long it has been there, and the legend that goes along with it.
Before I could drive, I used to be an explorer. I was constantly on a quest to find old cars and trucks in the woods that had long since been forgotten by their owners. When I did come across one, I usually stared at it for a while, checked out how things went together and thought about what it would take to get it all working again. Typically, there was not enough money or ambition in the entire world to have that actually happen, but it was still fun to think about. A 1949 Mercury 2 door hardtop was the car that got me addicted to doing this, and it probably changed me forever. Yes, it was the "Eleanor" of the lead sled community. The epitome of "cool", just yearning to be pulled out of the woods and cruised again...by me. In reality, it was completely rotted and destroyed by punk kids, barely resembling the elegant car it once was. I had seen a lot of "beautiful" cars in my travels through the woods. I came across everything from Model A's to a 57 Nomad to a Ford Sunliner with the weird glass roof. I had found a lot of of diamonds in the (really) rough, each with it's own mystery of how it got to its final resting place. I dreamed of driving them all.
The day that I got my license is when I started to find the really good stuff. You know, the kind of cars that quite possibly could be brought back to life again, then turned into gold, not that I would ever sell them. They hide behind sheds, in barns, under shrubs, and sometimes in garages cleverly disguised as piles of trash. Right now I have my eye on a couple of Corvettes and an unconfirmed Gullwing Mercedes... (I need to get a closer look to see if it is just my imagination.) This kind of stuff keeps me constantly dreaming about what I would do to different style cars if I was to get a great deal on one. I could chop this, lower that, add a pinstripe here, and so on. If I only had the time and space to save and build them all, I would be in heaven. Someday I will..
What it all comes down to is this: I am an explorer of the automotive variety, and if you think you are being sneaky hiding your 39' Zephyr behind the Escort wagon, in your back yard, under the oversized blue tarp, your wrong. Someday I will have an extra spot in my driveway with a grand in my pocket, and am coming for it. I will show up and offer your a deal that you just can't refuse. Until then, I will continue to dream of cruising in it, and keep wishing for a larger driveway.
