I just had another maple-dog last weekend. It was just as amazing as you think it is.

Lights got an upgrade. I took down the old box LEDs and replaced them with kessil lights. They're about the size of soda cans and they sit lower to the tank so you're not blinded when looking at the tank. The plus to these lights is they can be connected together and then connected to a controller. The controller allows you to program a real light schedule. So instead of just on and off on whites and blues, the lights will slowly fade on in the morning, and fade off at night. More realistic in that you can mimic a sunrise and sunset. The other big plus is the shimmer that you get in the tank. They're a little over double the cost of the original lights, but worth it for the look and controllability that you get.

And the tank under the old lights on top, new lights on bottom. The new lights seem to have a better spread even though they're physically smaller. Hard to see the shimmer in pics so I'll upload a video in a little bit.

Gonna be time to skin the stand soon. You guys have any ideas as to what it should look like?

Very cool. Could you do an industrial look? I am always a fan of that. Steel + Rivets FTW.

Dang that is a good idea, and I do have a 4x8 piece of sheetmetal in my garage. I would have to find a way to remove the surface rust from it though. Angle iron covering the seams and riveted on might look pretty cool.

Here's a good full tank shot since all my other pictures disappeared.

Don't bother removing the rust from the metal. Clear coat it! It would look dope!
