So a weird thing happened... I needed a truck since I sold mine a while back. I didn't want to spend any money on one though because I'm really cheap. Ideally, I wanted a red, crew cab 99+ Silverado because #thatLSLife and I have a kid/wife that travel with me to home depot sometimes.

So:

- I had old tool box that I no longer wanted/needed. I put it on here/FB/CL for sale/trade. By some miracle, a guy traded me an 87 TRX250 ATV for it. Sweet right? I thought so.

- I then cleaned up the ATV, and got it running decent, and put it on FB/CL for trade. BOOM - somebody offers me a 2005 Avalanche in trade.

And here's my new home depot truck!

Image

Here are some of the features:
- 275K miles
- Super ratty "construction worker" style interior
- Smoked in
- Broken transmission lines
- Broken tailgate handle
- Faded headlights
- Working sunroof! (GREG!)
- Airbag light
- ABS light

Needless to say, I AM FRICKIN PUMPED. I am so excited to have a truck again!

Damn man, that's insane, you somehow skipped the paperclip stage entirely!

Welcome to the Red Truck Club!

Some people never have anything except ideas. Go do it.
Emissions & fuel economy haven't exactly been areas of strength for past rotary power plants, but absolutely no one with a soul has ever cared.

Haha! Thank you. The red paperclip method works amazingly. I can wait to try it again!

Black grass marking paint or plastidip can cover it up easily. ;)

yeah, I have already de-chromed & de-skull'ed most of it. I'll be painting everything black, likely plasti-dip. Wheels, grille, etc. I should have most of the necessary parts by this weekend. Too bad I won't have time this weekend to play with it because of Easter! Drats!

Okay so far I got:
- The truck registered
- A body patch panel for fixing the rusty spot
- The special "GM Seat bolt socket". Yes this is a real thing.
- A scan tool that read airbag and ABS issues
- New headliner material & glue

Waiting on the arrival of:
- The new transmission lines
- The tailgate handle and bezel
- Airbag sensor (gotta grab from a friend)

Things I still need:
- License plate bulbs
- ABS diagnosis
- Replace broken exhaust manifold studs
- Change oil
- New Seats? Anybody got a source on these? Mine are destroyed.
- Interior removal and full scrub down of everything

You should make a video series like Tom's turbo garage on your projects!! I'm sure it's a lot of time, but it would be worth it... for us!! Hehe

I juuuuuuuust might. :)

Also - Here is the latest update:
- Replaced the license plate bulbs because they were both burned
- Replaced both transmission lines from http://www.1AAuto.com which got me 100% soaked the deepest, darkest, grossest grease I've been in in quite some time.
- Installed new 1AAuto.com tailgate handle and bezel. Works mint now! It's nice to have a tailgate that opens without pliers.

Next:
- Buy trans fluid. Maaaybe change trans filter and gasket... not sure...
- Change oil & filters
- Clean interior
- Attempt to drive it

If you're in Rome NY, Rubicon sells seats for $20 a bench or, BOGO on buckets.
And they have an 03 Avalanche 1500 in the yard...

Update:
- Change trans fluid and filter last night, in the driveway, in the dark, in the rain, with a stream of ice water flowing under my back. That was a bad time.

Also:
- The final dash light to sort out is a U1000 and a history of U1041. These make the ABS and BRAKE lights illuminate, which is not great. Sooo I'll probably take the truck for a spin around the block, and try to diagnose whatever the hell that is in the next several days.

Update:
- Drove it for the first time last night.
- Runs normal
- Cools normal
- Smells like antifreeze and the bottle was low. Great.
- Shifts normal
- Some rattles and clunks and stuff. No big deal.
- Discovered the blower motor fuse was pulled because it is stuck on 100%. I vaguely recall seeing weird wires under the dash that didn't belong there, so it may have the resistor bypassed or some BS.
- Found a TSB on my ABS codes due to a bad ground on the frame. I'll check that out this weekend.

If the abs light is on for the relay circuit it'll need a abs controller.

For seats, check at car-part.com
