Motorcycles are a slightly different scene than cars, but I have found that a lot of automotive guys are also motorcycle enthusiasts. I am one of those guys. I bought my 1988 Honda Hawk GT NT650 in many pieces from a guy that used it as a engineering project. I am not sure exactly what he did with it, but I know that when I got it, it was missing a lot of parts and needed a lot of work. I decided that I would rather make the bike the way I thought it should be, rather than buy all the expensive factory parts. I started with some 1x1 steel tubing, some fiberglass, some 64 impala parts, and a whole lot of time....and ended up with.....

These bikes are fairly rare to begin with and mine is 100% unique. It has 1964 Impala taillights that are also directionals. A full custom rear tail section that I painted viper yellow. I moved a whole bunch of electronics along with the battery to make it look nice and clean, and I added a visor over the headlight. I actually did a lot more than that, but it all runs together when I start thinking about it.
What do you think so far?

wow, thats a sick bike for its age..not a big motorcycle fan but that the way gas prices are lookin now i may turnover :lol: ..but great work :wink:

That bike looks really good man, I would get rid of the white stripes on the tank and fender, but it looks really nice. Is it suppose to be a single sided swing arm? That first pick made me think of a ducatti almost instantly.

The Honda Hawk GT NT650 is a interesting bike. It was made from 88-91 and it was a V-twin, short wheel base, single sided swing arm bike. It goes around corners amazingly, and it accelerates fast enough to scare you. I bought it as a basket case, and then built it to my liking. It is currently under mild reconstruction. It should be even cooler looking this time around :)

That looks awesome!!

Just have one question, that doesn't look like a stock hawk tank, what did you use? Was it an F2/F3 tank?

Can't wait to see what other modifications you've made to it.

It actually IS a stock hawk tank, painted yellow with pearl white stripes. The (de)construction I am currently working on will be awesome. I have 1/2 my exhaust built. I should have the rest of it done in a week or two.

I'm also getting rid of my gauge cluster, and some other "unnecessary" parts. :lol:

Ahh, I think it was the modified handlebars that made me think the tank was taller. Looks like you have clip ons installed.

Great job so far, looking forward to seeing your exhaust. Are you keeping the same can, or are you going to use another slip on?

I've got a Kerker on mine and I really like how it sounds, it's the Silver tip one.

I've thought about changing my instrument cluster, mostly to have a gear indicator. Seems like I have trouble keeping track of what gear I'm in on this bike, normally not a problem for me.

I really like what you did with the tail section, much cleaner than stock.

I have replaced my turn signals with ones off of a Buell xb9r and they look much better, along with some LED lamps and I'm set for the turn signals :)

I saw a post about the modification to use an F2/F3 tank. I have a CB919 tank and I might just test fit it to see how it works.

Update: I had exactly 45 minutes to work on the bike today after work, and Tada! Motor and frame are separate! The trickiest part was preventing it all from tipping over while I did it! I also picked up some paint for the engine, so hopefully I can make the engine pretty again this weekend!

My Mom had a silver Honda Hawk GT... Wanted that bike to be mine so bad, and she traded it in for a new 1993 Honda Civic. Bah!

Still haven't forgiven her for doing that haha. All she would have needed to do is hold onto it for 4 more years and I could have driven it haha.

Fix that bad boy up!

Tons and tons of progress has been made. I am at a standstill though until my paint dries. Oh, and when the can says "wait 36 hours OR ELSE!" It isn't lying. S**t gets fucked up... Gggrrrrr! (tons of time wasted because I was toooo anxious)
