Looks like it goes pretty well Dustin! I may know this answer, but I assume you still have an open differential?

Funny, I have the same tach and steering wheel. Nice choices. I'm still debating the location of the 3 Gauge pack. I'm still leaning towards the top of the Speedo housing.

Re: going for a little spin
yeah, still open, and i hate it. really, its hard to get an idea of how fast the truck is because when i really get into boost, it just starts spinning like hell. in any case, the exhaust is on now, and i plan on piling on as many miles as possible in the next month to really get the engine broken in, then pull the engine/trans back out, fix all the little leaks, clean the hard to reach parts on the engine bay, and put it back in with the T56 and 8.8 rear. my goal is to have the truck running with the T56 and 8.8 in time for my local forum's track day on June 22nd. i only need a couple hard parts, (slave cylinder and differential for the rear- just waiting for my tax return to get here to buy that stuff. also gotta hack the old leaf spring perches off the 8.8 and get the new ones welded on, which i'm gonna address this week probably. probably rebuild the rear brakes for good measure, and try to figure out a way to make the parking brake work as well. i'll be sure to take lots of pics.4g63mightymax wrote:Looks like it goes pretty well Dustin! i'd be afraid they'd be too high and in the field of view on top of that visor; but thats just me. i'd actually like to switch to an ultralite or at least silver faced autogauge tach just so it matches the rest of the gauges eventually.LSR Mike wrote:Funny, I have the same tach and steering wheel. thanks guys; i'm really gonna have a blast in this thing!

I am already jealous of your 6-speed and it isn't even installed yet.
Are you sure you don't want to trade it for a hydraulically activated KM132 with a shifter extension from a Starion?

Re: going for a little spin
Dustin, if you go with an 8.8 from an explorer, the leaf spring perches line up perfect with the truck leafs. The only problem I see with going that route it, the pinion is offset to one side slightly, which adds some into the operating angle of the universal joints.

yeah, i read that in your build thread, and i think i'm just going to deal with it for now. worst case scenario, i'll change the U-joints every spring!
really, i have a passenger car 8.8 with disc brakes i scored for $50 that if i really wanted, i could just narrow and actually build specifically for the truck; but i dont want to go that route until i see how the explorer rear works in the truck.
also, if anyone else plans on going with the 8.8- i found a guy on ebay who rebuilds stock trak-lok differentials with 8 clutches instead of 6, and will set the tension as tight or as loose as you want it, for around $125. i had a convo with him over emails and he seems to be a cool guy; i'll be sure to let you guys know how it works when i get it in the truck.
and Jeremy, i think i'll pass on the deal- just cant wait to be cruising down the highway at 80mph and 2000rpm!

Re: going for a little spin
Rebuilding the trac-lok diff is very easy. Iirc, it can be rebuilt with the diff still in the housing if our gearing isn't too low(thicker ring gear). I am curious where he gets his thinner clutches, Ford Racing sells a carbon clutch kit:

I believe the Ford kits are already set up for the correct clutch pack height and everything, just install and go
Btw, I am not sure what spring comes with the FRP kit, but the trucks have a stiffer spring than the cars and rangers, I'm not sure if the explorer has the truck spring or not.
Is that $125 for labor/parts?
