How do we get the youth of America to care about voting?

Post by 4g63mightymax » Tue Nov 04, 2014 10:23 am

I'm not a political person, but I see the importance of voting. I wish I could smack myself years ago for not voting for so many years. How do we get the youth of America to vote?

Ideas?

I'm not sure. I have always voted. It's my civil duty. Growing up in a military family it was always stressed about how important it was.

I don't know what my excuse was, but I don't think I started until I was like 24-25, which is a damn shame. Now I feel like I should be doing more to get younger people I know to vote.

Any time I get into a political conversation where someone is bitching about the way things are, I ask them if they voted. If the answer is no, the conversation is immediatly over. If people would have voted Ron Paul instead of either available candidates, we wouldn't be in the same political hell we are in now

Wasn't there a scandal where some groups were saying "Vote for blah" and handing out cigarettes, cash, or other stuff?

I wouldn't doubt that Walt. Politics and shady crap go hand in hand. Sad the way politics have gone. If pockets aren't being lined with green paper, it doesn't matter.

This ^^^

The powers that be will put who they want into office. Whoever they can steer to their side of whatever issue is at hand. Voting is a good thing, and honestly it's one of the only ways the little guy can have some input on what goes on in his country. But I don't believe it matters. I think we as a country, could all vote for one person, and if that isn't the person the powerful few want in the office, they won't be.

There were some interesting ballot questions in Mass, and it looks like we will have an "official" independent party for the next election, which will make things more interesting.

Also Oregon and DC can smoke now!

Just wait! It's coming to a state near you! I bet within 10 years it will be all legalized.

Tax revenues. That's what kept it illegal, and now ironically what will make it legal.

Yeap. It's all coming full circle. I imagine that police departments will suffer a bit though from less seized property at police auctions.

Nah, they've already found an alternate revenue stream.
They've starting to use unmarked cop cars with civilian plates and hidden lights for routine traffic enforcement.
Watch out, that #$%@-$% tailgaiting you and pushing you to 65 in a 55 may be a cop...
