Today's crazy question:
Imagine you're going to build a car from "scratch" - chassis, body, interior. Basically everything but the engine/trans. The goal is to sell it for the most money possible when complete, while also learning a lot about metal. The entire process would be documented on video / photographs / website.
What "type" of car do you build?
My initial thoughts:
- The 1930's Boyd Coddington style hotrod probably has decent value when complete, but the style is beat to death and makes me want to die. It would need to be drastically different from the 10 billion other ones that currently exist.
- Something like an Old Ferrari race car would be easy-ish to build (no roof - minimal fancy bits) and have a high value when done.
- Kit cars like Shelby's and what not cost a lot up front and don't have any ROI
- Maybe buy a cowl and chassis with a VIN from the 1910's and build and old style race car?
- Maybe build a futuristic hotrod sort of thing?
Caveat: Starting with an existing body that is complete trash would also be an option. Let's say $1500 or less initial investment to get you started.
Build a car with highest resale value - what is it?

A mid engine tube frame with a Hyundai drivetrain would be pretty cheap.
Resale wise, it depends how much you polish the paint and hide the noises with the stereo.

Some people never have anything except ideas. Go do it.
Emissions & fuel economy haven't exactly been areas of strength for past rotary power plants, but absolutely no one with a soul has ever cared.

Haha. I don't think there are people clawing down doors to buy a tube frame hyundai powered car. Though I like that somebody is building one!
