Damn. That's really too bad. I hate losing awesome data, and I feel bad for all the people that lost theirs. Unless something terrible happens to me, it's all pretty safe here for the foreseeable future. After all that's why this forum was started in the first place back in 2006!

There may be some faint twinkle of it being alive.
Apparently, the 10th is when parts of California were plunged into a "planned blackout" by their super corrupt and incompetent power company.

One can only hope the server is just waiting for a restart.

Well, so far, looks like locostusa is back up.

Haven't seen anything missing, but haven't looked hard yet.

EDIT:

Ohhhh boy...
I don't have much of an update, but I am talking to the hosting company about the restore.

They had a server meltdown (hard drive (RAID array) crashed), presumably beyond recovery. They claim to still be attempting recovery, but if they haven't got it by now, I'm pessimistic.

When I pressed them, they restored a backup of our site. It appears the backup is from February 2017. When I pressed them on that, they did not provide a satisfactory answer. They said our site is too big to back up. I am challenging them on that claim.

At this time, I recommend holding off making meaningful posts, or retain them on your computer so you can re-post after we get our best restore.

That's all I have for now. I'll keep you posted.

Again, Jeremy, thank you for being an awesome webmaster and keeping backups of all this amazing stuff!

Holy smokes! That's Good/Bad news! Good that it's not totally gone, but but 2 years missing is terrible. Further confirms that my regular backups are not crazy. lol

Mixed feelings, there was a database restore on locostusa to Oct 7th, but they seem to have lost any forum attachments.

Good news is, I host all my own photos, so my build log there is mostly intact.

Excellent! That is how I feel anytime things crash and burn. I'm always like "Ah well, I have all my own images/data backed up". I Imagine Facebook will crash and burn sometime, or start charging money for hosting things. When that happens, I'll be prepared for that too, not that I post many images there anyway. I'm always hoping to wake up one morning to find FB no longer a viable business. Sadly, it hasn't happened yet.

I haven't been on facebook in what seems like years. I don't miss it hahahaha. I do still use messenger to keep in contact with a few people though. Data loss does suck, and unfortunately I don't backup anything really on hard drives. I took a hit when photobucket started charging but in my experience, digital backups are still much more reliable. Seems like everytime I try to store things on external drives and even on my laptop, things get corrupted and I lose everything.

Happy new year everyone! I don't know if you guys have ever heard of the polar plunge, or if they do those things where you all live, but holy hell the ocean is cold this time of year.

Hahaha, the good ol polar bear swim.
Made even more fun if snow is in the air.

Happy new year, and stay warm!

I always thought the same thing when I saw it done here but I was talked into it yesterday morning. I can't imagine doing it up there where you guys actually get a real winter!
