Hello all!
I wanted to do something with the website recently and found that I needed to upgrade PHP to do it. Then I remembered that the reason we have the old version of PHP is because of this outdated version of this forum. Soooo It is looking like I'm going to attempt to upgrade the forum in the near future. It's very scary... If all hell breaks loose, find me on Facebook/email/text. I think I may attempt in next weekend?

For those wondering how I will go about this:
-I'm expecting to download the entire forum folder via FTP.
- Then I'm either going to delete or rename it in the hosting area. I'm afraid that renaming it may not be enough, and deleting it would be better for the new installation.
- Then I'm gonna follow the instructions for upgrading to a new PHPBB version
- Then I'm gonna reload all of our years of data back into here.

Questions? Concerns? Ideas?

Yes! That too. That would be a like a last resort right? if things don't work than I can recover it that way?

The database is what actually holds the threads and posts, their contents, and all the user info, so it's the most critical thing to keep safe.

You should be able to recover from the bare database and the config.php file for the forum.

I don't think you'll have any issues, phpbb is pretty easy to upgrade.

There's also the option to force an older php version to be used for the forum only,using the php.ini file, if things go pear shaped after the php update.

Okay! Good to know. I intend to save multiple copies of everything, everywhere i can, so I will have many backups.

I'm basically expecting to get the whole thing done, and then having the website say something like "an error occurred". When that happens, panic will ensue. lol

I asked the host and they pointed me to some instructions that they have. So... nope.

However, last night, I did a full backup of everything I have hosted. I also did a backup of this forum from the admin panel, but the zip file was abnormally small. It was like 21kb? Is that really possible?

I think you can do the first one which says it gets the databases, and do the phpmyadmin stuff to be double-sure.

Well, the locostusa .com forums went poof as of October 10th.
Not sure if they're ever coming back, but I'm not holding my breath.

Makes me damn glad I always kept my build log here.
