Well, I finally have a Galant VR4. It's number 1803, and years ago it was converted to right hand drive. Personally, I am not a huge fan of the right hand drive thing, so I am not sure whether I will keep it or swap back. It hasn't been on the road in years, and it needs basically everything. The good news is that it is totally rust free, and has newer paint. So it will look nice once reassembled. Anyway - here she is:

I am not really a fan because the parts are so darn hard to come up with, and it would need door panels, most of the dashboard ( I only have the shell of one, and its beat up bad), all of the HVAC parts, and the console to complete the RHD swap. So I think swapping back to LHD would be cheaper, and maybe even easier because the parts exist in USA. :)

I am hoping I can trade them for LHD ones, but we will see! They def wont end up in the trash! You will get them before that happens.

Is a 1G DSM subframe the same as a GVR4 I wondered?

.....borrowed from DSMTuners

"Well i was a little off. The rear bracket, rear mount, tranny bracket, front mount and subframe have the same part number. The driver mount, tranny mount have front mount bracket have different part numbers. If you didn't change anything other than the subframe, than i am going say that you probably have a rear automatic motor mount on the car. Here are the part numbers

Subframe for both cars-------------MB573544
Rear mount for both cars-----------Mb436495
Rear bracket for both cars---------Md136195
Front mount for both cars----------MB436490
Front bracket for galant vr4--------Md133344
Front bracket for awd dsm---------Md133347
Driver bracket for vr4--------------Mb436505
Driver bracket for awd dsm--------MB346741
Transmission mount for v4r--------MB436541
Transmission mount for awd dsm-- Mb436729
TRansmission mount bracket both-md731017

After seeing that you have a 1g mount in the driver side, i bet that is probably throwing you off a bit. Was it hard to get in there?"

I like quick and dirty. I also like hotrods. hmmm.

FWIW - I did pick up some more parts for this thing tonight. I think that there are some more RHD in the parts in the rubbermaid bins I got, but I haven't sorted through them yet. This weekend I will dig through and see whats there and what isn't.

In Japan the car is considered to be the year it was produced. so if it was built late December of 87 it will be considered an 87. Japanese car company's will swap body styles in the middle of a year or even a month.

Rear subframes are the pretty much the same. Only difference is you don't have the mounts and extra holes for the rear steering rack. I swapped a 94 talon rear subframe in to replace my cracked rusted one.

Note:
Pre-90 "Pre-facelift" VR4s/VR4 RS had the 14B turbo, those bumpers and lights
Post 90 "Facelift" depending on model had the 16g, RS had a extra vent in the front bumper, these cars came with dual fogs in the bumpers (projector inners/regular outers). Turn indicators in the corner lights (single bulb) RSs and Evo Spec RSs got hood vents as well.

Just some differences, but basically all USDM GVR4s are base models lol.
