I guess I'll start at the beginning. About five years ago my friend gave me a 1989 Mighty max with 240,000 miles with a rebuilt engine 2.0L 5spd and lots of rust in exchange for some work I did on his other truck. The truck turned out to be great for hauling bikes, picking up parts, etc and was much more efficient than my other truck a 1986 Chevy K20 with a carbed 350 and no overdrive TH400. So the White Mighty Max made a great shop truck for three years until the rust won the battle (rotten body mounts, holes in the floor and the frame had holes). I searched for another truck and found a 1989 Mighty Max Macro cab with no engine but a good body and frame for $380 so I picked it up. I ran the rebuilt 2.0L from my old truck since it still ran decent for about a year then it began to foul spark plugs and eventually lost compression in #4 cylinder(cracked head). So I looked for a replacement engine and didn't find much except rebuilt engine for about $1500 and I would be lucky to get 90HP out of it. So after searching the web I discovered the 1G 4G63 turbo swap and decided to go for it!!! So at this point I am neck deep in the swap pushing to get it done!!!

That is a super clean looking truck! I love it. Be sure to use a heat shield on that manifold because under boost, I could imagine the heat from it could mess with your thermostat.

Thanks Jeremy! Yes I am definitely going to install a heat shield and I thought about a turbo wrap/blanket.

Couldn't find a EPROM or EEPROM in single quantity, and won't be sending out a parts order anytime soon, so you're getting a FRAM module instead.
Lucky lucky you. ;)
I'll write the program in tomorrow evening and we'll go from there.

Some people never have anything except ideas. Go do it.
Emissions & fuel economy haven't exactly been areas of strength for past rotary power plants, but absolutely no one with a soul has ever cared.

Not exactly sure what a FRAM module is but if it will help get my truck running that sounds excellent!!! Thanks Walt !!! I went to the Stafford Springs raceway swap meet a couple weeks ago and found a t-stat housing with no cracks, an uncrushed 1g BOV, and a couple cheap intercoolers. So now I need to get down to work and get this project moving!

I have made some progress! I've been working on all the plumbing and I must say that has been the hardest part of the swap so far. I have the cooling system all sorted out with the heater core, throttle body and turbo all plumbed in. The swap meet Saab intercooler fits great in front of the radiator and the inlet and outlet aim back towards the engine so that keeps the connections to a minimum to prevent boost leaks and keep the plumbing simple. I managed to find a good rust free 93 mighty max fuel tank with the in tank pump from a junk yard in Texas because those tanks seem to be nonexistent in the northeast. I'm going to run a walbro 255 in the tank. I need to get the tank and pump installed, wire the engine up and get the cas installed on the front of the engine (hopefully my front mount CAS idea works but we shall see) then I should be ready for the first start up!! I'm hoping to get this thing running by January if everything goes smooth. when I get a chance I will get some more pictures up for you guys and if everything works well I will get into more detail on my setup.
