thanks for the input, i checked the alternator and part of plastic washer was missing allowing the stud to ground out.

do you have a cable cluch or hyd in your 89 Power ram 50? I have a 87 D-50 wanting to know if a cable cluch would work fine.

Cable clutches in these trucks work great until you have a really stiff pressure plate. Then then become hard to push, and bend your firewall. I converted my truck to hydraulic because of this, and it was one of the best upgrades that I did. Search my build thread for pics and info.
