Hello from Portland Or

Post by RickDees » Sun Dec 14, 2014 7:00 am

My name is obvious, I'm getting so old if I use a alias name at a forum I won't remember, passwords are hard enough.
At my age the kiss theory works...."keep it simple stupid" Call me Rick.
All kidding aside.
Jeremy and I came to know each other years ago at old forum called the Mightyram50.
So this is shout to Jeremy!

Now a little on my truck since it's 2:45 am here.
It's 1986 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Spx
2" body drop, 74 pinto/mustang ll style IFS, still static on 2" drop spindles. 11" disc. running on 18" wheels
A narrowed 95 Ford 8.8" limited 3:74 with 11" disc. Tracking device is my version of a watts linkage keeping the Suicidedoors (built like a SBH) 4 link tracking true.
On the rear I am air bagged with Slam specialties Re-4's. My shocks are cantilever in a custom cage set up.
I'm running a 1997 Chev 4.3 v6 vortec with a carb and MSD 6A, Th-350.
No doubt after 12 years of chugging along is this build, I forgot to mention something.

I can give some details of what why I need you guys and maybe I could be of help you too?
I've been reading a lot about Turbo's, here's what I bought so far. It's loaded as you see and brand spanking new. $309.00
This will run off my stock S-10 harness with some minor plug changes for the injectors and at least a 2002 ECU.
If some spelling is wrong, it's now 3:00am.

Welcome Rick! It's been a while, I think you'll enjoy it here.

So you're going to turbo the v6? Sounds like an awesome idea.

Wow! Here is a blast from the past! Welcome to the HRCS Rick, I'm thrilled that you are still around and building cool stuff! Can we see some recent pictures of your truck?

Also - what's your game plan with your engine? Any idea what turbo you will be using?

It's not odd to me, I could be taking too long to write a post and it kicks me off?
So, I now have two windows open so if it boots me off I still have saved what I was trying to say.

Thanks Jonathan and Ryan,
Ryan my pictures aren’t new. I’ve found that I don’t progress forward very quick building a truck.
I will post some old ones, forum guys love to see pictures. I do.

Ethan and Jeremy, I don’t think there’s been a month without thinking of you guys. It’s great to hear from both of you. You both know (as I said,) how slow I move.
Ethan’s been waiting for me to cut my Pinto ugliness out and do tubular upper and lower A arms for 8 years. So now when I say turbo it could mean next year.

I have couple of issues with doing this injection.
One is to bring my transmission tail end up and redo the trans cowling.
And if I’m going there, I’m lowering the engine which is leads to redoing the IFS. A friend I have discussed my idea (excellent Tig welder) on dong a tube frame to carry the lower control arms and wrap around the oil pan. (Kind of a sub frame thing)
Then there’s cutting a hole in my hood ( hate that thought) .
Of course all this is, God willing.

As far as turbo on this block it won’t take what the Syclone or Typhoon 4.3 did and they ran a Mitsubishi made TD06 17C about 550cfm, if I’m not mistaken.
This block is 9 .2 to1 the S/T was 8.1 to 1 so can’t blow hard on it. If they say what I read is true 9:1 is pushing it.
I’ve even considered bi turbo, you both know my headers already face forward.
But this is exactly why I came to find you…..for the do’s and don’t.
I’m using my 97 s10 engine harness which ran a black box pcm harness to run a gm 2001 to 06 x0411 pmc. I’ve found all the information. Basically the new pcm will be like the marine pcm only not water proof. My way of thinking before any turbo, I want to watch and learn a tuner program off a basic flash and learn a lot before that day.

Right now I’m in the processes of building a Vortec Stand Alone engine harness. They call it a four wire turn key, but it’s really a four circuit turn key. Right now, waiting on parts.
I’ll do a thread on it soon and post pictures of course.
By the way,
Happy New year!

Rick

What an incredibly awesome truck. So do you pull the s10 harness and almost clean it up like a basic hotrod harness would work?

I try to stay humble while people say thing like that. Thank you.

I am removing the VSS harness but I’ll add a plug by the pcm for the vss, so if I ever upgrade to 5spd or the Gm auto E series trans.
Basically, I want a cleaner looms and routed the way I want. Not that I’ll need everything on it, just to have it all to tune with. That and you must know how the dam thing works.
Lol.
Yes, I guess one could say it’s stand alone rod harness, but I find that GM went the extra mile with Mercruiser. You know now, but back then GM called it speed/density theory and operation.
The Merc PCM base flash load is dialed with every dot and t crossed and even they have problems. The Merc PCM runs new for about $1600 to as low as 800 used and if it is new or used expect problems.
When you do have problems call, Whipple. Yes, Whipple blower.

These 555 PCM’s 98 to 99 ran with zero oxygen sensors, no speed sensor, no egr.

Short story, My old friend retired now spent his days mining the internet for information pertaining to his trade. Knowing this I spent learning the internet and finding info he didn’t have.
This link I can’t find here in the states, this took me weeks to find. From Russia I believe?
This PDF explains GM/Mercruiser EFI, MEFI, MPI with PCM 555
